Modified for beginners, One World classes incorporate breathing deeply into each meditative pose. Our goal is to increase flexibility through longer hold times and focused breathwork. Students work on softening muscles and connective tissues. Relaxing into a pose, with the help of gravity and the breath, is the ultimate goal of this level.

The Space

One World Wellness is a collective healing & practice space offering affordable rates for the community and holistic education rooted in simple Taoist principles. Attaining oneness of Self by bringing the body, mind & spirit into balance is an intention that pervades all aspects of our space. Members who are able to attend regular classes also benefit from learning transformative breathwork & meditation, increasing flexibility and improving energy levels. As individuals, members come to know a deep peacefulness within themselves, and ultimately, seek to create a collective (a small microcosm of our society) that values this peace and wisdom gained through yoga and meditative arts.

The Creator
Christine ucich hopes One World Wellness will become a space where a community can grow around the practice & study of Taoism. In addition to yoga & meditation classes, she combines elements of Taoist philosophy with tea drinking ritual where simplicity, purity and harmony are the supreme values. Christine's other interests range from nature hikes to relaxing at the beach to preparing healthy juices & smoothies! She lives in the New Haven area with her wonderful husband and two cats.

After studying the Chinese healing & martial arts of tai chi, qi gong & kung fu, Christine Ucich came to Taoist Yoga as a way to cultivate stillness through meditation. She enjoys the silence of this meditative yoga practice and the time it allows in letting practitioners find that deeper connection between mind & body. Having practiced several yogas including hatha, ashtanga and kundalini, Christine chooses to teach this practice because of its emphasis on combining internally-focused breath meditation with postures. Certified as an instructor in 2004 and a senior instructor in 2013, she studies directly under Taoist Master Hyunmoon Kim, founder of SunDo International which is an organization with several schools in the US, Canada and Europe.
The Practice

The practice of Tao Yoga originates from an ancient mountain hermit tradition, known as SunDo in Korea, in which Taoist ascetics used highly advanced breathwork to purify life energy thereby enhancing their longevity. It was a practice not only for health but also a type of spiritual discipline to attain enlightenment and immortality.

After training with the mountain Taoist hermit Bekyung, Master Hyunmoon Kim became one of twelve masters in the world sanctioned to teach this practice. With its aim of balancing the body, mind and spirit, Taoist yoga integrates postures, breathwork, meditation, visualization and energy healing into one holistic practice. As a form of Mountain Taoism, it is based on self-cultivation and depends on a practitioner's commitment to consistent practice and an ability to sustain his or her own inner process of development.
